Bishop Sutton Res  3 – 2  Clutton
Bishop Sutton Reserves fielded no less than 11 players from the under 18s team from the squad of 14 players that took on local high flying Clutton. The visitors arrived with a spring in their step and an eagerness to win this game with a large number of their players being ex Sutton reserves players. Sutton opened the scoring early on with a 30 yard screamer into the top right corner of the net from Tom Press to give his side the lead, Sutton keeper Matthew Charman made three great saves to deny the vistitors from leveling the score, whilst Clutton were a big physical side and always looked dangerous going forward particularly with ex Sutton reserves players Parsons, O’Connor and Thomas who are all quality players trying very hard for their team, the young Sutton defence did not bow down at any point and were never going to throw in the towel, Liam Butt, Charlie Morgan, Joe Bishop and Ben Hawkins all stood tall and either of them could of been man of the match. Clutton did level though from a long range shot which keeper Charman will be disappointed not to of kept out but with the the saves that he had already made, nobody was going to criticise him for that, the half ended 1-1.
The second half looked a little more in favour of Clutton in the first 20 minutes, they seemed to get control of the game and looked dangerous and went close on two occasions but they then got what they deserved and went 2-1 up. The young Sutton side seemed to wake up and started to pass the ball around the field with ease, Jack Fillingham should of leveled the score but took one to many touches and the visitors keeper was able to block his effort. Sutton continued to pressure the Clutton goal and the keeper pulled off two great saves, Jack Park who looked awesome throughout the game floated in a cross but the ball hung in the air and the Clutton keeper found himself in no mans land to watch the ball sail into the net to level the scores which was deserved. The young legs and quality of the Sutton team continued to push the tiring visitors and some desperate defending gave Sutton a penalty in the last minute of the game, Rob Dumphy who had worked so hard for his team stepped up and coolly sent the keeper the wrong way to give Sutton a great win and all three points. This performance shows what a set of quality young players the club has and they now need to do it all again on Wednesday when they are at home again against local rivals Purnell Sports kicking off at 7.30pm.
