Ashton & Backwell u18s 1 - 5 Bishop Sutton u18s
Sutton’s performance tonight was about as good as good gets, the first 10 minutes saw Backwell putting Sutton under pressure but hey defended everything with desire and passion and started to counter attack and created a number of chances in which Higginson and Scadding both went close but it was in the 23rd minute when Sutton’s Scadding put his team in front and just two minutes later he scored his second. Sutton were now in total control of this game across the park. Higginson and Scadding both had further chances but were unable to convert but a 2-0 lead at half time was a deserved one.
The second half continued to be controlled by a very confident Sutton team and they went 3-0 up on 47 minutes with a great goal from on form Jordan Pugsley. Backwell tried everything and they pulled a goal back in the 54th minute but Sutton’s Higginson made it 4-1 on 55 minutes with a 25 yard smash giving the Backwell keeper no chance and hard working Jack Park made it 5-1 with a skilful header on 85 minutes to give his side a great win and a league double over Backwell this season. Sutton now face Mangotsfield Utd next Thursday which will be a crucial game for Sutton if they are to challenge for top spot.
Glastonbury Town U18s 3 - 3 aet (2-4 pens) Bishop Sutton U18s
After winning their two previous league games, it looked like Sutton turned up for this game thinking it was going to be a breeze but soon found out that this was not going to be a case. From the start, Sutton looked dazed and half asleep and found themselves 2-0 down in the first 15 minutes to a side that lacked ability but had plenty of energy. Josh Scadding pulled a goal back on 16 minutes. Sutton’s Higginson missed a chance with his head and captain Tom Press went close from distance but it was Glastonbury that were more determined and went 3-1 up just before the break to go in with a deserved lead at half time. Sutton came out in the second half a lot more determined. Higginson, Scadding & Press all went very close and should of scored, then in the 50th minute, Higginson was brought down in the box and Press stepped up and blasted the ball in the net from the penalty. Higginson then levelled the score on 80 minutes to take the game into extra time, Sutton dominated most of the play and had two great chance to finish but just could not convert. Sutton then did the job by winning the penalty shoot out by 2 - 4 with goal from Pugsley, Press, Bishop & Hemmings. Sutton will need to pick their attitude and performance up next week at home against
Mangotsfield Utd.
Bishop Sutton u18s 1 - 0 Bitton u18s
Sutton went top of the table after this very narrow victory over local rivals Bitton. Sutton were always in control of this game with keeper Brandon Marshall not having to make a save in the whole game, Ross Higginson went close on 5 minutes when his header hit the bar and Tom Press hit the post from a 20 yard shot just minutes later and then on 35 minutes Jordan Pugsley broke through the Bitton defence but just shot wide past the the post. Bitton were a very physical side and battled hard but rarely managed to get into the Sutton box during the first half. The second half was not pretty on the eye with Sutton trying to play football but Bitton often breaking up the play but it was Pugsley that broke through and netted home on 52 minutes to give Sutton a deserved lead. Higginson and Scadding could of put Sutton further ahead but it finished up with Sutton gaining and deserving all three points.
